I thought I'd start a thread about some of the movies we've seen (either in theaters or on DVD).

Casino Royale
I saw Casino Royale last week on DVD. It's a pretty good movie. It's leaner and grittier than some of the other Bond movies, without all the flash of high-tech gadgets, or huge explosions. Daniel Craig's Bond is more of a throwback, returning Bond to his roots when he was more raw, and not as polished as Brosnan was.

I liked that Judi Dench played a larger supporting role than she ever had before. But casting her was a bit of a surprise for me since I've read that Casino Royale has been called a "reboot" of the Bond franchise. If that's the case, then I would think there'd be a new actor to play M, since some of the old guard like Q and Penny have departed.

The movie was a bit long, at almost 2.5 hours.

Anyone else see a good movie lately?

I watched The Quick and the Dead on the weekend. I really liked it, but I have to admit, it's not for everyone. It's a western with some brutally stylized violence. The theme of the movie is revenge, but the spin is that the one seeking revenge is a female gunslinger which probably wasn't very common in the old frontier days.

The hallmark of the movie is an excellent cast that you couldn't assemble today unless you had a huge budget: Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Gary Sinise, Lance Henriksen, and directed by Sam Raimi. Hackman delivered a juicy villianous portrayal of a depot gunslinger who controls a beaten down town. He holds a quickdraw contest and gunslingers from all over compete for the prize money. Crowe was also good as the preacher who is competing in the contest against his will.

I watched Dejavu last weekend I really liked it, the going back in time was a bit far fetched, I liked the fact the poeple could feel themselves being watched.

I also watched The last King of Scotland but it was so boring I fell asleep

I saw Live Free or Die Hard last week. It was a pretty good movie. Made for the popcorn summer crowd. Lots of non-stop action, with Bruce Willis playing the same wise-cracking cop who is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you're in the mood for a loud movie, long on action but short on believability, then give Die Hard 4 a shot.

Saw the Bourne Ultimatum this past weekend.  It's really exciting and action packed!  I would recommend that you rent Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy on DVD before watching this one.  They're all very good!

I was disapointed too Princess with 300...it was just a graphic movie...the original that came out about 35 years ago was a lot better movie. Staring Richard Egan.      We are going to watch  MEET JOE BLACK later tonight. I love that movie.... with Brad Pitt.

I agree Addit,I haven't been in movie theater in about 30 years except for about 5 times when I was in the Amish Country.  Screens way to small and way to noisey in them anymore.

I saw The Guardian the other night, starring Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. It's about a seasoned Coast Guard rescue swimmer, teaching a bunch of new recruits which includes a cocky and arrogant Kutcher. Pretty good movie, but it was rather formulaic. I would recommend it but just barely. A few people I've talked to did not like the ending, but after I saw the alternate ending on the DVD, I think the ending they went with was probably the wise decision. If you've seen it, let me know what you thought of it.

We finally got to see Wild Hogs this weekend and it was a hoot, comedy about 4 men on a week long road trip on motorcycles.
