General Chat and Gossip / General Chat and Gossip / A Belated HappyNew Year!
|
on: January 07, 2010, 03:44:49 pm
|
As always, I'm a little late with this, but I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I haven't had much "posting time" lately due to all that has been going on at home and at work (my mother is still recovering from her heart attack/stroke that she suffered in November)...but I've been keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers
Thank you all for everything that you have done for this site in 2009 and before, and may we continue to grow in 2010.

only 18 or 19 tickets in Jacksonville Florida, Some very talented kids got the gold ticket.
The only reason that I wasn't allowed to audition when they were in Jacksonville is because I'm too old, too ugly, and I sing like a castrated hound dog.

I wanted to check in and wish our "family" a Happy New Year! I'm sorry that I haven't been on line much lately, but I'm having some problems with my right eye which is blurring my vision somewhat, and by the time I get home from work, I just dim the lights and rest.
I thank all of you for your friendship and support, and I'm looking forward to a great 2009!

That's sad, Princess...I heard the Snoopy Christmas song for the first time in at least 30 years the other day, and I was determined to find this great classic. Why don't you download them to a thumb drive and play them at home?

HEY OUTA! It is really great to see you here ...I was just reading a PM from someone in The Coffee Shop about the names of the great people that we don't see much anymore, and you were the first person that I thought of. I've really missed seeing you around, and I'm REALLY glad that you're here. With your vast knowledge of classic TV and movies, you'll add a lot by helping folks to remember the great things that the small screen had to offer. Even though your name says OUTAfocus, thank you for bringing a person that's being pulled in so many different directions back INTO focus, and giving myself and others more reasons to smile!

I have to agree with Bud Collyer being a favorite. He treated his panel and guests on TTTT with the utmost respect. My other all-time favorites were Bill Cullen, Gene Rayburn, and Dennis James (especially on The Price is Right). It was a special treat for me when Dennis James would sub for Bob Barker on the the daytime TPIR.

In honor of Princess' vacation, a classic show that bears remembering is Hawaii Five-0. Jack Lord was the ever-cool detective Steve McGarrett; his catch phrase throughout the series was "Book 'em, Dano" (James MacArthur as Danny Williams) Enjoy the theme to this classic show, and post memories of your favorite episodes! (great, another postcard from princess then)
Dear flea, things have not quite turned out as planned, the price of petrol means that returning to America from Hawaii by plane has grown somewhat expensive perhaps even prohivitive, but I had a talk to the galley slave captain was very sympathetic saying that a bit of rowing would help trim our figures and that we would get best sea-views going. hugs and kisses princess
If Princess gets tired of rowing, her hubby can help by dog-paddling!

OK, I'm tired of YouTube's "Video No Longer Available"...on that note, I post the first video that's being hosted on the NEW www.family-of-forums.com! This is a full episode of M*A*S*H as seen on TV LAND, without commercials. Before Harry Morgan became Col. Sherman Potter, he played an offbeat General Steele in an episode called "The General Flipped at Dawn". Without further ado, The Family of Forums presents... The General Flipped At Dawn! Enjoy!

Classic TV Shows / Your Favorite Classic TV Shows / Re: The DuMont Network
|
on: April 24, 2008, 08:34:31 pm
|
In July 1950, Jackie Gleason took over as the host of Cavalcade of Stars, a variety show that aired on the DuMont Television Network. After a few episodes, Gleason and his writing staff developed a sketch that drew upon familiar domestic situations for its material. Gleason wanted a realistic portrayal of life for a poor husband and wife living in Brooklyn. The couple would fight constantly, but ultimately show their love for each other. After rejecting titles such as "The Beast", "The Lovers", and "The Couple Next Door", Gleason and his staff settled on "The Honeymooners" for the name of the new sketch. Gleason took the role of Ralph Kramden, a blustery bus driver, and he chose veteran comedy movie actress Pert Kelton for the role of Alice Kramden, Ralph's acerbic wife."The Honeymooners" made its debut on October 5, 1951, as a six-minute sketch. Castmember Art Carney made a brief appearance as a police officer who gets hit with a pie Ralph had thrown out the window. The tone of these early sketches was much darker than the later series, with Ralph exhibiting extreme bitterness and frustration with his marriage to an equally bitter and argumentative middle-aged woman (Kelton was nine years older than Gleason). The Kramdens' financial struggles mirrored those of Gleason's early life in Brooklyn, and he took great pains to duplicate on set the interior of the apartment where he grew up (right down to his boyhood address of 328 Chauncey Street). The Kramdens (and later the Nortons) are childless, an issue never explored, but a condition on which Gleason insisted.Early additions to the cast of later sketches were upstairs neighbors Ed and Trixie Norton. Ed (played by Carney) was a sewer worker and Ralph's best friend, although his innocent and guileless nature was the source of many arguments between the two. Trixie Norton (maiden name unknown), Ed's wife, was originally portrayed as a burlesque dancer by Elaine Stritch, but was replaced by the more wholesome looking Joyce Randolph, after just one appearance. Trixie is a foil to Ed, just as Alice does for Ralph, but derivatively, and almost always off-screen. Due in part to the colorful array of characters that Gleason invented (including the cast of "The Honeymooners"), Cavalcade of Stars became a huge success for DuMont. It increased its audience share from nine to 25 percent. Gleason's contract with DuMont expired in the summer of 1952, and the financially struggling network was unable to re-sign him. In later years, the first prime-time cartoon was loosely based on the "The Honeymooners"...the modern stone-age family, "The Flintstones". Enjoy this clip of Jackie Gleason and The Honeymooners, originally aired on The DuMont Network in 1951. Jackie Gleason and The Honeymooners, 1951, DuMont Network

thanks for the encouragement, goblin, I am really fed up at the moment and cant seem to get out of the funk, on a good note in the last 3 and a half weeks I have lost 8lb so it is not all bad Princess, over the last four years, you've gone through many life-altering events...some not so great, and some wonderful. Changes, whether good or bad, can cause a person to feel out of kilter...The thing that sets you head-and-shoulders above most people is your ability to turn a negative situation into a positive one. When things look bleak, try to remember that God has you in the palm of His hand, and the darkness will soon yield to the dawn

Years ago, in the Golden Age of TV, there was CBS, NBC, ABC...and The DuMont Network. The DuMont Network was home to such classics as Captain Video and Wrestling from War Memorial Arena...it was also the network that a little show called THE HONEYMOONERS, starring Jackie Gleason, got it's start. In the future, I hope to post some clips from some of the old DuMont shows. TV FANATICS owe a great debt to... The DuMont Network DuMont Network Station Identification

the goblin lived in the old world where television was different saying only the big American programs reach here so the best television shows he probably had missed, "...besides, the remote belongs to my children who always invent a plausible reason why one such as me gets no TV for their M TV..." the goblin's face went yuck with the memory of it adding "...well that is when my son isn't playing the PS3 killing people on combat missions..." so the goblin had learned the simple truth that after one finally learns that "when you have children you mortgage your future" one also finds out that they walk of with ones television too
I remember when I was about 2 or 3, there was a station called the Dumont network...TV's come a long way since then!

I hope Trace wins, because he's "good ol'boy" ...but I don't like the story line that Trump is trying to play by making our British brothers and sisters appear as the "bad guy". Great Brittain is the only overseas ally that the U.S. and Canada can rely on through thick and thin, and I can't stand it when anyone puts down the Union Jack!

"...thanks..." said the goblin slowly sounding out the thread, he liked admin's question and took cue form it repost coffeenole site, last post thread, page 7 he goblin wanted to lose but then realized that it would only cause division amongst the members here as to who in fact had won in his place, so merely wishing to keep the other members as equal to himself as possible he decided to generously rename himself Augustus (meaning "first amongst equals") and somehow hoped that the other members would share in his happiness then,
yours sinfully, Augustus Fleamailman

General Chat and Gossip / General Chat and Gossip / The Easter Goat
|
on: March 19, 2008, 07:54:48 pm
|
This is an original short Easter story... In a rural area in the Southeast, where farmland stretches for acres on end and animals are plentiful, a mom and dad were planning to get their young son his very first Easter pet. The mom said to her 8 year old son, "Dear, you're getting older, and I think you can take good care of a pet now. Your dad and I would like to get you whatever you would like as an Easter gift. Would you like a dog or a cat?" "I don't think so", replied the young lad. The boy's father asked, "How about a nice Easter bunny or Easter chick?" His son replied, "No, dad, I don't think that's what Easter's about." The parents asked their son what he wanted for a pet, and to their surprise, he answered, "A goat". "Why in the world do you want a goat for Easter?", the befuddled parents asked. "Mom, dad, the other day in school, some of the bullies tried to get my friend Jim in trouble for something he didn't do. My teacher said that they were trying to make Jim a 'scapegoat'. On Easter Sunday, didn't Jesus 'scape from a tomb and become the goat for things he didn't do?" replied the son. The mom and dad were amazed at his logic, and dad replied, "I suppose so". Their son insisted, "Mom, Dad, I want a goat to love and take care of". True to their word, the parents got their son a goat for Easter, and the the son took care of it until the day the goat died. The boy was now a teenager, but still cried as he laid the goat to rest. His mom and dad placed their arms around him to console him, but as he dried his tears, the young man said, "I know my pet is gone, but the Easter Goat lives on for us all..." Have a joyous and blessed Easter!
